We finally made it to the annual and International Jeju Fire Festival! It was an incredible event. Lighting the fire of this particular mountain is a tradition for the Korean culture, in which they are preparing for harvesting of the new season. Also, it's a way to get rid of all evil spirits and start the new year fresh.
There were many performances (singers, dancers) on stage, many tents set up with snacks...corn on the cob, corndogs, sweet potatoes, korean food, and drinks...Soju, Makeli, Maekju (beer), coffee, along with little Jeju souvenirs.
We saw so many of our friends at the festival and was able to get right up near the fire, which kept us cozy and warm. After the festival, we went to a friend's apartment, where a mini concert was happening. There are so many talented musicians on Jeju. From the concert, we made it to city hall and met up for Cassie's going away party at Island Stone. The owner there gave us shots on the house because we haven't been there for so long. It was great to see so many wonderful people this weekend, get off campus, and also enjoy a tradition of the Korean culture. Cheers! What a night!
