The pictures above are from our one day field trip during our orientation in Jeonju city (on the mainland of South Korea). We went to a park that had many temples to look at, and then to Honok village, where all 700 EPIK teachers ate bibimbop, some administrators from the education department of the city gave speeches, and we made fans, saw a sample wedding, some children's games, and walked around the village. One of the games is a traditional game for girls. Since the girls were not allowed to leave their homes in the past, they would jump on these wooden logs to see above their house's wall to the other side. The girls jump back and forth and try to jump as high as they can.
You can also see one picture of a Korean lady working in the garden (which is very popular to see everywhere). Also, in the picture peeking in the temple, you can see money hanging from the ceiling...people bring 1,000 won (which is less than $1 in the US currency) to hang for good luck. Many people go to these temples to pray inside, while drums and music are sometimes playing.
Above is a video of EPIK teachers all stirring the bibimbop...the famous dish of Jeonju city. It is a delicious dish made with: rice, chili paste, many vegetables (seaweed, bean sprouts, cabbage, carrots, etc.), eggs, some type of meat (I think we had chicken), sweet potatoes and maybe a few more ingredients.
There is also a video I took when watching a part of the pretend wedding ceremony that other EPIK teachers were acting out and wearing the types of dresses they wear during these special occasions.
