This is the third year that Keith and I are teaching English overseas and traveling the world. We are still on Jeju Island, but we are teaching at an American boarding international school this year (KIS), about an hour away from our old home. I hope my blog, pictures, and videos help you learn about South Korea, the Korean people and their culture. I also hope to have this blog in order to keep in touch with the friends and family who I love and miss so much back in Chicago!

Seogwipo b-day getaway: Olle Trail#7
What a beautiful trail!! On Saturday (the day before Keith's b-day) we got up early, took a bus down to Seogwipo, checked into our pretty little pension, then hiked Olle Trail #7, which took about 5-6 hours. It was an all day event and by the end of the hike we were exhausted. However, the hike was refreshing, great weather..in the upper 60s/lower 70s so was breezy and cool but warm enough...and there was scenic views throughout the entire hike! We saw many Jeju stone walls, volcanic stone that we had to climb over, ocean views with islands in the distance, and the pretty galdae reed (which is a popular plant that blows in the wind in the spring and fall). We hiked through forests, up small mountains, through stone and rock, on the beach, through dirt and through grass. It was a a peaceful afternoon. We made some stops throughout the hike for photos and for hot chocolate and b-day cookies. Since our pension was near the end of the trail, we hiked the trail backwards. However, this worked out best for us because then we were able to save the best scenic view (and most popular) for last. If you look in the first photo on this blog you can see the pretty site. It's called Oldegae and is a beautiful rock in the middle of the water. I think it's also popular from being filmed in some Korean movies. We felt like seeing this last was the reward for the tough hike.
Hiking this olle trail made Keith and I realize how lucky we are to live on this gorgeous island. There are around 24 Olle trails that surround Jeju Island (their all on the shore). We hope to continue hiking the trails and hopefully before we leave we can experience the beauty of each one.
The next day we planned on seeing some fun new touristy museums on our way back to Jeju-Si. Check out the next blog for details and photos! >>
