Pre-wedding Party

Here's the scoop on our pre-wedding party...

Like I had mentioned before,. we rented a banquet hall near a beautiful beach called Hamdeok beach, which is about 30 mins. away from our apartment. Because of hitting over 100 guests for the buffet (which we just had our friends pay for since it was a more casual get together to celebrate with everyone before some of them leave the island), we were able to get an incredible deal on the banquet hall, the singing room (nodebong/karaoke room), and on our seaside room for the night! It was a good decision on our part too to do the banquet hall since it ended up raining the whole weekend. This is the rainy season!

Well, we had the room from 6pm-10pm. We had about 25 teachers/co-teachers from both me and keith's school, making it about 50 korean co-workers. Then we had about 50 foreigner friends/ other English teachers. And then we also had some other close Korean friends of ours on the island (like keith's kickboxing coach, other friends who we go out with, old co-workers who now work at other schools, etc).

Everyone made a point to tell us that the buffet was insanely good! We unfortunately were so busy talking to everyone (our 120 guests) that it made it impossible to eat more than a few salmon sushi rolls. We ended up just eating snacks later in the night up in our room since everything was closed by then!

We started the event with everyone grabbing food at the buffet (which was in another room and was nicely decorated), then they were all seated at tables. Keith and I made a short announcement with the mic on the front stage telling everyone why we were having the celebration and how wonderful of a year it has been and how we're so lucky to have met everyone. Then I played my slideshow (a 20 min. movie first having a short peak into our past of how we met at isu/chicago memories together, then going into our move to jeju island/ then pics of our co-workers and students who we have enjoyed teaching with and meeting this year, then showing pictures of our friends and everything we've experienced together...then going into the things that keith and I have experienced together and learned, then ending the video explaining that we are about to take the biggest adventure now of our lives (getting married) and would love to have one big celebration with all the people we care about here on the island and have become close to...before heading off. ) I'm not gonna lie...the video/slideshow was outstanding and I got so many compliments the rest of the night from everyone on what a great job I did with it. I worked so hard on it for a few weeks at school and outside of school, so I’m glad everyone liked it and it turned out to be as special to people as I was hoping it to be.

Anyhoos.... after the video and finishing their meals, most of our Korean co-workers ended up leaving around 8pm or so, then we turned up the music and everyone (all of our friends) had a lil dance party (keith collected tons of good music for the party), and then after 10, when we didn't have the room anymore, most of our friends all headed to the nodebong (singing room/karaoke room). We fit about 20-30 of our friends in this small little room where a sound system, mic and TV were set up. We could choose any songs we wanted for the hour that we had the room, and there were couches, tables, a strobe light, and shaker instruments. It was an amazing night and more than we had imagined it being. Once everyone headed out (and some hit up the beach for a lil bit while most headed back to our city area because of the rain) we headed back to our room and opened some sweet gifts and sweet wedding cards from our close friends Two of our friends made paintings for us...they're really good artists!...while keith’s kickboxing couch gave us a lil kickboxing match statue (awesome!), and some other Korean friends of ours gave us a statue of the traditional Korean wedding couple dressed up in Hanbok (Korean clothing), while a few other friends gave us the traditional Korean masks as decorations to hang up in our apartment! Also, some of our friends put sweet little notes all around our seaside room that we stayed in! It was all so generous! Everyone added a lil unique touch to make the night so special for us.

What a great celebration! It was the first big party that Keith and I hosted together and after hearing such positive comments the week after the event; I think it was very successful!
